We know one week covenant is prophesized in the book of Daniel as below:
“Daniel 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations, he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
Some people misunderstand this part as the contract done between country Israel and other Middle East countries. I believe this is a wrong interpretation and false doctrine because the Bible and book of Daniel are written mainly for Christian faith and not for the political situation.
Let’s see the scripture below step by step.
“And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week:”
Who is he? It is written on former verse;
“KJV Daniel 9:26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary, and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
In this verse, there written,” Messiah be cut off” and also other “prince that shall come.” This prince is Anti-Christ. So, we now know “covenant” to be done with anti-Christ. But what kind of covenant?
In this verse, there written the destruction of the sanctuary and other disasters like below:
“The people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary, and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.”
This prophecy will be fulfilled twice. That is to say,
First: After the death of first coming Christ:
Second: End time when Christ’s second coming
After the death of Christ, rebellious people of Judas receives the revenge of God,
For they reject and give death sentence and crucify the Christ, God only begotten son with ungodly way.
Therefore, with the permission of God, the people of the prince (Roman general and his soldiers) come to Jerusalem and destroy the city and sanctuary (temple), and there were desolations till the end of the war. This is the doom of apostasy people of the time of Christ’s first coming. This prophecy was correctly fulfilled.
And this prophecy is a double prophecy. Therefore, this same scripture will be
fulfilled again at the end of the world, upon the apostasy church.
“The people of the prince” (anti-Christ) that shall come into the church and govern it and destroy its holiness and sanctuary.
And the end thereof shall be with an evil spirit flood on the church, and unto the end of the war, church desolations are determined.
This is the situation what book of Thessalonians depicts as below:
“2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.”
In this part, Paul clearly prophesizes the falling away of the church.
And related to this, he talked about the man of sin, the son of perdition. This is the Anti-Christ.
So, we know falling away of the church has many relations with the appearing of
the Anti-Christ. It is as though the dirty kitchen has related with appearing of cockroach.
Anti-Christ may or not appear himself upon the healthy and faithful church.
But, he can appear himself upon the church falling apart.
“4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.”
The Temple written here is not the temple in Jerusalem. For presently, no temple exists in Jerusalem. Instead, it is about the church as God’s temple. Paul explained this as below:
“Ephesians 2:19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone;
21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.”
Here, we can see the New Testament church is the household of God, and it is the
holy temple of God, and it is built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, and Jesus Christ, being the cornerstone. So, when the book of Thessalonians prophesy about anti-Christ as “so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.” this temple is not about the temple of Jerusalem, instead of about the church as worshipping temple of God.
So, when the scripture is warning us about the anti-Christ “sitteth in the temple of God,” it is not about the temple of Jerusalem, but it is about our church.
So, the scripture is clearly warning us about the future of the church falling away, and as a consequence, anti-Christ will sit at the center of Church and showing himself that he is God and kick out the Christ, real God from apostasy church.
After this understanding, we can go back to the former verse,
Daniel 9:27 below:
“Daniel 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. “
Let’s see it;
“And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week:”
When the scripture talks about covenant, we must consider this word within
the flow of verses. Other verses talk about church falling away and
the Invasion of anti-Christ and his sitting on the center of the temple (church)
as God. So, this word “covenant” may also relate to church apostasy or
betrayal of the church. The word “covenant” is also used in the scripture below:
“ Genesis 17:7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.”
This word “covenant” was used at the part where Abraham made an eternal covenant with God. So, this word relates to faith and eternal life.
We, Christians, are the people who establish a covenant with Christ for eternal life.
However, when Christians are falling away and confirm the covenant with anti-Christ, then, their covenant established with Christ will be abolished.
“and in the midst of the week, he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease,”
Here, there written anti-Christ will make Christians to “sacrifice and the oblation to cease,”
This is not about literal sacrifice and oblation. For in the New Testament church, no sheep nor cow sacrifice is given to God. It is a parable. Sacrifice and the oblation in the present time is:
Ministry done for God or worship service and preaching of God’s word.
That is to say, anti-Christ will prohibit Christians to do true ministry of God
and Christ-honoring preaching in church. On the contrary, only Anti-Christ honoring
preaching to be permitted.
“and for the overspreading of abominations, he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.”
In the churches falling away, abominable anti-Christ worship will be spread, and
as a consequence, churches will be desolated rapidly.
Why will this kind of situation be allowed to church? Because of her
falling away and God’s wrath upon her.
In conclusion, present Christians do not see the word; the falling away of the church was prophesied in the book of Thessalonians. Therefore, they can not understand what will happen in the end-time church. However, scripture clearly warns us of her falling away, and as a consequence, anti-Christ will invade the church and govern her
till her destruction and desolation.
This kind of word is not itchy to our ears, but we must see the truth of the scripture.
