NO. 74 THE SIN OF EDOM

TEXT: PSALM 137: 7- 9 7 Remember, O Lord, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.

8 O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.

9 Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones. (KJV)

Today I am going to give a message entitled “THE SIN OF EDOM.”

When we go on reading the descriptions of Edom one by one, we clearly notice one thing. That is, Edom will be judged in the end time. What is their sin to be judged? We are going to see it.

Firstly we are going to see who Edom is. They are the descendants of Esau and vulgar Christians who sell their birthright as written below.

HEBREWS 12: 16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. (KJV)

“Remember, O Lord, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.”

Jerusalem, the true God’s people, will be attacked and destroyed in the end time. This is the incident to happen in the tribulation age. At that time the children of Edom will escape out of trouble and conversely deliver up their brothers to death. That is what the above verse says. The same is also written in Matthew concerning the end time as below.

MATTHEW 10: 21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. (KJV)

Edom will deliver up their own brothers and sisters, true Christians, to death as Esau tries to kill his own brother Jacob.

“O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.”

The descendants of Edom and the daughter of Babylon are parallel to be described in this verse. Edom may be also the daughter of Babylon. The daughter of Babylon is understood to be the harlot of Babylon in Revelation. They will be judged in the end time.

We find many other descriptions of Edom in the Bible. We will see them one by one.

1) 1 SAMUEL 22: 18 And the king said to Doeg, Turn thou, and fall upon the priests. And Doeg the Edomite turned, and he fell upon the priests, and slew on that day fourscore and five persons that did wear a linen ephod. (KJV)

It is the dreadful sin to kill God’s priests and moreover great number of 85 priests at a time. Such a dreadful incident cannot be found many in the whole Bible. Yet the end time is to come when the priests and true God’s people as kings, are killed and made a martyr of themslves. This description may be the sign for that.

And the Edomites, the worldly Christian brothers, are thought to be the first to do so at that time. The name Doeg (the fearful) is symbolic, because it is written in Revelation as below.

REVELATION 21: 8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. (KJV)

Once we enter the tribulation age, we have to pray so that we will not be the fearful.

2) ISAIAH 34: 4- 8 4 And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree.

5 For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment.

6 The sword of the Lord is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of kidneys of rams: for the Lord hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea.

7 And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness.

8 For it is the day of the Lord’s vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion. (KJV)

All the host of heaven means the sun, the moon and the stars, which are Christians. The vine and the fig also mean Christians. And they are the Christians of Edomites and are judged in the end time. Lambs, goats, rams, unicorns and bullocks are the words all to express symbolically God’s people in the Bible.

They will not make a martyr of themselves but be judged and killed. Why? For it is written as below.

“For it is the day of the Lord’s vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion.”

It is for the recompenses for the first martyrs whom the Edomites have slaughtered. The word Zion indicates Jerusalem and so means true Jerusalem, the martyrs. This is the time of the Lord’s vengeance to recompense for the martyrs.

So we should know there are two kinds of the Christians in the end time. One is the Christians who will follow the Lord and make a martyr of themselves and another is the Christians who will slaughter them. This is exactly the same case as of Jesus time. In the Lord’s time there are two kinds of God’s peoples. They are those who truly follow Jesus and others who persecute them. One is the authoritative and the majority but has received the recompense of the blood in the God’s time.

3) ISAIAH 63: 1- 4 1 Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozra (sheepfold) ? this that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.

2 Wherefore art thou red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat?

3 I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment.

4 For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come. (KJV)

This prophecy also tells of the recompense to the Edom in the end time. Edom means the red and the word of dyed garments used here is the same. So the reason why they are called Edom can be made clear. Edom means the name of God’s people who are judged and of the color of the blood when they are judged. And the word Bozra means sheepfold. As it is the Church where there are sheep, we understand that Edom means Christians by that. The similar prophecy as the above one in Isaiah is also written in Revelation as below.

REVELATION 14: 18- 20 18 And another angel came out of the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Trust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the cluster of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe.

19 And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.

20 And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs. (KJV)

Here the winepress is trodden. The vine is also trodden and blood comes out. These two descriptions are so similar that we know that they are related to the things of Edom in Isaiah. The vine means God’s people and the horse bridles means the teachers in James. For that reason we understand that the judgment on Edom written in Isaiah will be executed on the day of Revelation, on the end time day.

4) JEREMIAH 49: 7, 8 7 Concerning Edom, thus saith the Lord of hosts; Is wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel perished from the prudent? is their wisdom vanished?

8 Flee ye, turn back, dwell deep, O inhabitants of Dedan; for I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him, the time that I will visit him. (KJV)

It is mentioned here also of the judgment on Esau, Edom. It is written, “Is wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel perished from the prudent? is their wisdom vanished?” There are many theologians and wise men among them. But they will not be able to interpret the prophecies for the end time properly and enter it beyond their imagination consequently. For they have not sought the wisdom of the Lord which is superior to that of Solomon.

This is also written in another passage of Jeremiah as below.

JEREMIAH 8: 8, 9 8 How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the Lord is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the scribes is in vain.

9 The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the Lord; and what wisdom is in them? (KJV)

It is written, “Flee ye, turn back, dwell deep.” Those true Christians who survive in the end time should dwell deep in the underground church as the feast of tabernacles symbolizes. For the orthodox churches that deliver the martyrs into death will be destroyed under the rule of antichrist in the tribulation age. They should flee so that they will not entangle themselves in the troubles at that time.

5) JEREMIAH 49: 17, 18 17 Also Edom shall be a desolation: every one that goeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss at all the plagues thereof.

18 As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour cities thereof, saith the Lord, no man shall abide there, neither shall a son of man dwell in it. (KJV)

It is written that the end time judgment on Edom will be like the one on Sodom and Gomorrah at that time. Therefore we Christians should be free from the wrong teaching of the leaven that the judgment will have nothing to do with Christians. We should totally remove the confusing teaching which has entered the Church since the time of John and Paul. And we must rightly tell and mention to others of the end time judgment on God’s people that the Bible repeatedly says.

6) AMOS 1: 11 Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever: (KJV)

Here again it is said of the sin of Edom to transgress his brothers. The Bible repeatedly mentions of the transgression between the brothers in the end time. Therefore, this thing will surely happen. We must pray and prepare for it even from now on.

Let’s do the will of the Lord in the end time.
